On today’s podcast Denis Gorman joined me for a quick hit to talk about the hit that may have taken Sidney Crosby out of the playoffs, and the reaction to it around the NHL from players, fans, media, and Pittsburgh in particular.

We also chatted about the New York Rangers’ series against the Ottawa Senators, and the coming out party of Brady Skjei, then shifted to Nashville to talk about the NHL’s consistent failure to promote P.K. Subban.

This week on the podcast I’m joined by the managing editor of Hockey-Graphs.com and the CTO of Hockey Data Inc.; Garret Hohl.

Garret is a big proponent of hockey analytics, as am I, although he works more with public data whereas I work with Sportlogiq, a private company that uses proprietary data.

We tackle the public understanding of statistics, how great Patrik Laine can be, the pros and cons of binning, and the need for some to throw out analytics whenever they don’t perfectly mesh with results.

This week on the podcast, Marc Dumont from Eyes on the Prize joins me to do some playoff predictions for the second round, and then we go deep into what went wrong with the Canadiens this year, and whether they can recover from it.

We also referenced an article on EOTP from Kyle Medeiros on the Canadiens’ inability to break in drafted players, which you can read here.

The man, the beard, the legend; PDOcast host Dimitri Filipovic joined me to talk about the early returns on the 2017 NHL playoffs, going through it series by series, but not before I tell an embarrassing story.
